Lake Elmo 10AA South and Woodbury Royals Black 10AA duel to a 9-9 draw!
.
AF-Kids - Saints - MBL take the show to Lions Field in Lake Elmo for the third Spotlight Game of the Week! It was a beautiful summer evening, the crowd was ready, and it was time to play ball!
Just like a July 4 fireworks display, this game had a steady pace before a Grand Finale. As the game entered the fifth inning the Woodbury Royals (3-12-1) had a semi-comfortable 5 – 2 lead and added four more to that in the top half and became very comfortable that the game belonged to them. Lake Elmo (3-10-2) exploded back into the game with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game 9 – 9 in front of a roaring crowd that included both cities’ mayors at Lake Elmo’s Lions Park.
The fans were treated to have Kelly Casey-Spaven, President of the Optimist Club, join us to sing the National Anthem while Boy Scout Troop 288 of West St. Paul (St. Michael's), Leader Shawn Murphy, did a very professional presentation of the colors.
As part of the pre-game welcome, Mayor Johnston of Lake Elmo and Mayor Hargis of Woodbury each spoke about their “Spirit of Cooperation” as neighboring communities. Mayor Hargis then took the mound and through out a ceremonial first pitch to catcher Mayor Johnston.
Following the introduction of the players and coaches ceremony, Megan Peterson treated the crowd by singing our national anthem as the VFW Color Guard presented our nations’ colors.

We loved the pig, the games, and the way you had the crowd involved. The kids responded as well! What a great evening - It doesn't get any better than this!
It was a fantastic event for all who participated and attended. The players, coaches, and parents from both teams have fond memories, and I'm sure that this will be the highlight of the season said Rich Forstner, Coach of Lake Elmo 10AA South
Woodbury started the game off right when leadoff batter Jake Trevis walked and eventually scored on a Scott Pape sacrifice ground ball to the second baseman. Woodbury never trailed the entire game from that point on. Robert Scarrella started the scoring in the fifth inning when he doubled for his second hit of the day driving in a run.
Lake Elmo answered Woodbury’s exciting four run fifth inning with their own fireworks in the bottom of the inning. The rally flags were flying, the crowd cheering, and Lake Elmo’s Andrew Lammers hit a RBI triple and scored on an error in the same play. The triple is all the team needed to get inspired to nearly bat around (11 of 12 batted in the inning) while scoring a total of seven runs to tie the game.
Game 3 Wrap and Box
Travis Bruestle had quite a hand in the game going 1 – 3 with three runs, he scored the only runs the team had before the big rally. Ben Skweres’s double provided three RBI in their huge fifth inning on his only hit of the day which was a double while Woodbury’s Michael Hieptas had a notable day going 2 – 3 with one run scored and two RBIs.
