2006 Spotlight Game of the Week
The first official day of summer brought a huge crowd that included Saints’ Owner/President Mike Veeck to West St. Paul. They saw South St. Paul (8 – 3) defeat the home team 9 – 4 in a battle of 14AA Metro Baseball League teams. Two big innings, third and sixth, provided more than enough runs for South St. Paul to close out the game with ease at Matson Field in West St. Paul.
The fans were treated to have Kelly Casey-Spaven, President of the Optimist Club, join us to sing the National Anthem while Boy Scout Troop 288 of West St. Paul (St. Michael's), Leader Shawn Murphy, did a very professional presentation of the colors.
SSP got off on the right foot when the lead off batter, Thomas Grimshaw, walked and eventually scored on a single by the cleanup hitter Andrew Nauertz. South St. Paul erupted for four runs in the third

including Grimshaw’s second of three runs scored in the game.
Starting SSP pitcher Jason Fogel continued the pace striking out five batters in his two innings, earning him the win.
A fifth inning home run over the left field fence by South St. Paul’s Tim Kohlman made it 6 – 1, but West St. Paul rallied to get within two runs at 6 – 4 as Ben Broos, Michael Rostampour, and Tom Monson crossed the plate. However South St. Paul answered back with a three run sixth inning to cap the scoring for the night.
Trevor Mikacevich, Jim Clancy, Tim Kohlmann and Jason Fogel provided two runs a piece for SSP, who out-hit their hosts, 10 – 5 for the game.

Saints public address announcer Rusty Kath did the play by play while an associate of Sister Roz, the resident massage therapist, provided relaxing massages to fans. Between innings, the Saints in-stadium show took over with all of the classics including promotions such as “Smoothie Strike” and “Shoot-out”. Mascot Bud Squealig made appearances and was available for pictures. Rusty and organist Andy Crowley kept the fans involved. Instead of the 7th inning stretch, we had the “4th Inning Stretch” Peanut Toss.
