June 5, 2006 - First ‘Spotlight’ Shines on Eastview Lightning

2007 - YOUTH LEAGUE GAMES, PROFESSIONAL TYPE ATMOSPHERE

All the staples that the Saints are known for: the hockey shootout, tire race and karaoke with a Japanese guy, along with the sound effects, music and mascot Mudonna will come to a Youth League in and around the Twin Cities.

The Saints coming to a Youth League ballpark makes the event exciting.

June 5, 2006, Johnny Cake Ridge Park, Apple Valley
Apple Valley 12AA vs Eastview 12AA

AF-Kids, the St. Paul Saints, and the MBL brought the show to Johnny Cake Ridge fields in Apple Valley for the first Spotlight Game of the Week series on June 5th. Channel 5 KSTP TV Twin Cities covered the game and the fun!

Apple Valley, MN - In the first of the Saints road shows, Eastview 12AA Lightning defeats Apple Valley 12AA White 8 – 4 in an action-packed evening complete with the Saints’ in game show, an inside-the-park homer, and a successful suicide squeeze.

The fans were treated to have Brooke Kilgarriff, a recent graduate of Eastview High School who also appeared on American Idol, join us to sing the National Anthem.

Apple Valley White jumped off to a 1 – 0 lead which lasted until the bottom of the third when the Lightning’s Ryan Bohnenstingel laid down a perfect squeeze bunt, bringing home Chris Lesch to tie the game. From there, the Lightning took over with a total of eight unanswered runs including a fifth inning inside-the-park home run by Zack Johnson.

Eastview had to hold off a sixth inning rally while Apple Valley scored three runs but the Lightning closed the game out with two men on base and the tying run on deck.

Saints public address announcer Rusty Kath did the play by play while an associate of Sister Roz, the resident massage therapist, provided relaxing massages to fans. Between innings, the Saints in-stadium show took over with all of the classics including promotions such as “Smoothie Strike” and “Shoot-out”. Mascot Bud Squealig made appearances and was available for pictures. Rusty and organist Andy

Crowley kept the fans involved. Instead of the 7th inning stretch, we had the “4th Inning Stretch” Peanut Toss.

What a wonderful event, we couldn't have been happier with the response! The smiles on those young ballplayers' faces were priceless. We look forward to working with AF-Kids and the Metro Baseball League to bringing the Spotlight Game of the Week to youth ballparks around the Twin Cities throughout the summer!

This was a treat for everyone who came out to the park. Through our association with AF-Kids and the Saints, we have been able to bring these kids an experience that money can't buy.
